Greek Myth Haiku

by Ruby Celeste Wetzel

Daphne

A beautiful nymph
Fleeing from great Apollo
Why, now she’s a tree!

Persephone

Out in the meadows
No one but Persephone
Wait, where has she gone?

Hermes

The messenger god
Flying around everywhere
Just look at him go!

Titans

Children of Gaia
They overthrew their father
It happened again!

Charon

In the underworld
How would ghosts get across Styx?
By Charon, of course.

Otus & Ephialtes

Sons of Poseidon
Hera, Artemis, love us
Don’t kill me, brother!

Theseus

What a great hero
He killed the bad minotaur
Bye Ariadne!

Heracles

I’ll become a god
Said the hero Heracles
Wait, what? Two more tasks?

Hera

You’re with my husband
You’ll get punishments often
Ha! You won’t live long!

Cerberus

Three heads? Amazing
But what does he do with them?
His job is to guard.

Attica Contest

Which god should we choose?
Athena or Poseidon?
How ‘bout Athena?

Hades

Hello, I’m Hades
So, did you know you just died?
Welcome to your death!

Zeus

Brave & Mighty Zeus
He is the king of the gods
He looks powerful!

Demeter

What’s she goddess of?
Agriculture and harvest
She controls nature.

Abelis

Well, what do you know?
Abelis is my cousin
He’s the god of taste!

Hestia

Hello, I’m Hestia
Dionysus took my throne
The hearth is open!

Sisyphus

What’s his punishment?
Rolling a rock up a hill?
That is not so bad…

Orpheus

They say: Don’t look back
Tell that to Orpheus, please
But will he listen?

Helios

Wow, it is so hot
Know who to blame? Helios
He is the sun god!

Aphrodite

Ooh, she’s a beauty
Who is she? Aphrodite
The goddess of love.

Dadeluas

You know Dadeluas?
He invented the labyrinth
He’s an inventor.

Kitty Bonus Haiku

Kitties are silly
They do very silly things
Adorable, too.
